Carbonale vs. Quincy

these are the only 2 places i have lived and i both love and hate them both.

restaraunts: 17th street vs. maid rite: well in carbondale i crave maid rite and in quincy i crave 17th street. i think i have to give this one to carbondale though. 17th street has cooked for the white house multiple times and you really can’t beat their bbq. (1-0)

bars: copper dragon vs. instant replay: copper is definately nicer and bigger, but if there isn’t a good band playing there’s not much to do…so i give this one to replay for all the games they have in the bar. (1-1)

colleges: SIUC vs. QU: um i think this one’s obvious SIUC. i might be a little biased ;) (2-1)

natural disasters: inland hurricane vs. flooding: i’ll have to go with quincy on this one because while the mighty mississippi does a lot of damage else where, quincy usually stays rather dry. (2-2)

movie theaters: the varsity vs. state theater (the state room): both are shut down these days (as theaters). when i was little i went to the state theater a time or two and i remember it being beautiful and amazing. the varsity is also amazing. it’s an old play house turned into an old school theater. it really kind of creeped me out though (theater bathrooms always do, but this one especially for some reason). i think i’ll give it to the varsity because i had a lot of good times there (3-2)

theaters: shryock vs. little theater: there’sno question here that it goes to shryock. it’s one of the most beautiful places i’ve been and the shows are always good. the little theater is more modern and drab and the shows always kinda suck. not due to a lack of talent, but a lack of organization (4-2)

“famous” areas: metropolis vs. hannibal: metropolis is the “home of super man” and a big tourist trap. there isn’t much there except a giant super man a casino and a museum that looks more like a place where someone threw a bunch of super hero memorabilia. hannibal on the other hand is the boyhood home of mark twain. there is a lot to do there and it is all focused on mark twain and his writings. it’s also the home of the unsinkable molly brown. (4-3)

smut shops: lion’s den vs. chelsea: althought they are both porn shops the lion’s den is nice and inviting like a department store that just happens to sell dildos. chelsea is disgusting and gross and you feel like you’ll catch something just walking in the door. (5-3)

sandwich shops: booby’s vs. watkins: booby’s is a nice little sub shop on the strip that has really good sandwiches. watkins is a little out of the way mom and pop store with delicious sandwiches for about .75. (5-4)

misc.: bait and porn shop vs. you know not much matches up to that…. (6-4)
